Reset one utensil drawer without buying a whole system

Give everyday tools the easiest place to reach.

Empty the drawer onto a clear surface and sort tools by how often you use them. Keep a small everyday group together: the pieces used for your normal meals, not the pieces that look good in an organized photograph. Put occasional serving tools into a second group and damaged or duplicate pieces into a separate decision pile.

Clean the drawer before planning its layout. Lay your everyday group back in without an organizer and notice the awkward parts. Long handles need length, while small tools can disappear beneath larger ones. This exercise shows whether you need a wide open section, a few dividers or a removable tray.

Use existing small containers to test the layout for several days. Check whether you can lift out each tool without moving others. Only then choose an organizer that solves the remaining problem. An expandable design gives flexibility, but a correctly sized fixed tray can be simpler. Buying fewer compartments can be the right decision when your tools vary widely in shape.
